Marsden Point Refinery.. Success Formula.. In My Beautiful Country New Zealand!

This is Continued From:
CRUDE OIL  -  NATURAL GAS
The Condensate/Light Oil was extracted from the Gas and sent to a newly built tank farm at Paritutu near Port Taranaki, it was then shipped up to Marsden Point Refinery.

Marsden Point Oil Refinery:
New Zealands Refining Company..since 1964... IT IS THE ONLY Operated Oil Refinery in New Zealand.
The 1986 Expansion made it one of the most Modern Refineries in the World.. Making New Zealand Self-sufficient in all Refined Products.
The Expanded Refinery can process the cheaper heavy crude oils, with the hydrocracker technology increasing the useable yield of a Barrel of oil by upgrading it into high value components, thus saving foreign expenditure on finished products.

A Barrel of Crude Oil has a Mixture of all sorts of Hydrocarbons in it.Oil Refining Separates everything into useful Substances.
To See why Marsden Point Refinery Has a Success Formula and how Crude Oil_Natural Gas is Successful..

Crude Oil Distillation

(1).The oldest and most common way to separate things into various components (called fractions). is to do it using the differences in Boiling Temperature. This process is called Fractions Distillation. You Basically heat Crude Oil up..let it Vaporize and then Condense the Vapour.

(2).Newer techniques use Chemical Processing on some of the Fractions to make others..In a process called Conversion.Chemical processing..for example, can break longer chains into shorter ones. This allows a Refinery to turn Diesel fuel into Gasoline depending on the demand for Gasoline.

(3).Refineries must Treat the Factions to Remove Impurties.

(4).Refineries Combine the Various Fractions (Processed, Unprocessed) into Mixtures to make Desired Products. For Example... Different Mixtures of Chains can Create Gasolines with different Octane Ratings.
The Products are Stored on-site until they can be Delivered to Various Markets.. such as Gas Stations.. Airports and Chemical Plants.

In Addition to Making the Oil-based Products... Refineries must also Treat the Wastes Involved in the Processes to Minimize Air and Water Pollution.

Oil Companies provide the Refinery with it's Feedstock of Crude Oil and Condensates in Crude Tankers of up to 145,000 Tonnes Displacement. These Discharge to the Refinery Jetty which is situated in Deep, but Sheltered Water at the Entrance of Whangarei Habour.

Marsden Point Refinery
As many of the staff  live locally at Marsden Point, there is a healthy interest in maintaining a clean environment.
This means clean air, clean water and low noise levels are number one priorities.
The Rare New Zealand Dotterel Breeds on site and it's security is assured by the attention of a team of dedicated staff (ornithologists Science of Birds).

The Crude Oil is Prodominantly of Middle and Far Eastern Origin, with a balance of Indigenous feedstock from TARANAKI.

Liquid Condensate from the Kapuni Feild is Pumped to New Plymouth for Storage before Shipment to the Marsden Point Refinery.

At Oaonui (West side of Taranaki Coast),a Production Station Processes Gas from the Maui Feild and Stabilises Condensate to Enable its Sea Shipment to the Marsden Point Refinery.

Not all of the Marsden Point Refinery's Output is Distribution by Sea... About one Third of the Refinery's Production travels 170 km by Pipeline to the Wiri Terminal in Auckland for futher Distribution by Road Tanker to Auckland City and nearby Regions. There is a futher line carrying Jet Fuel from Wiri to Auckland International Airport.

Supply of New Zealand's Feedstock and the Delivery of Finished Product to Coastal Ports is carried out by the New Zealand Coastal Tanker Fleet.

Within the Refinery... various processes are carried out which Produce Premium and Regular Motor Gasoline...
Automotive and Marine Diesel... Aviation and Lighting Kerosene... Fuel Oils and Bitumens.

Sulphur is Recovered as an Unwanted By-Products and is Sold as Feedstock to the Fertiliser Industry.
Carbon Dioxide is Recovered by a Third Party for use in the Beverage Industry.

The Refinery Operates around the clock...  365 day's a year... In order to Enable this Massive task to be Undertaken by some 250 people... Sophisticated Computerised System are used... In Fact the Marsden Point Control Room is one of the most Modern in the World and is being Continually Modified and Improved.

This is Marsden Point..Success Formula..In My Beautiful Country.. New Zealand.
Despite the Refinery's Complexity and the Hazards Inherent in the Product... It is a Very Safe Place  in which to work... having Broken many Safety Records. The Refinery is a Modern... Efficient... Healthy Company that uses Kiwi Labour and Expertise to Satisfy New Zealands Growing Demand for Liquid Fuels.
