ONE OF TARANAKI'S  SUCCESS FORMULA  IS  NATURAL GAS!
But New Zealand must find a Alternate Fuel.
Taranaki is the Centre of New Zealand's Crude Oil, Natural Gas and Petrochemical Industry..
It Produces all of New Zealands Petroleum (Crude oil,Condensate,Natural Gas,LPG and CNG)
(Naphtha..  Which is a Inflammable Oil Distilled from Coal)
Petrochemical (Methanol and Urea). Click Here For More Information..
One of Taranaki's Success Formula is Natural Gas!
NATURAL GAS Mostly From the Maui and Kapuni Feilds is Piped to the 80-hectare Methanol Complex At Motunui..
( Just out of  Waitara, Taranaki.. Going North To Urenui)
Where it is Converted into about 2 million tonnes of Distilled Methanol..
A Futher 520.000 tonnes of Export-Grade Product can be Manufactured at the Smaller Waitara Valley Plant.
The Methanol from the Two Plants is piped to Westgate Port Taranaki..
Where the Vast Majority (97%) is Exported to International Markets in the Asia-Pacific Region and Beyond..
One of  Taranaki Success Formula is Natural Gas, but New Zealand must find a alternate fuel.
==============================================
Alternative fuel such as Ethanol, Corn classed as "yellow gold" in the US. New Zealand grow a large amount of grain crops but our climate sometimes is not ideal ripeing weather, as this spring 2006 was very wet and much cooler, the crops are some three to four weeks behind in growth, the days are shortening and crops are yet to ripen.
Grain is a commodity to watch, as it is estimated that by 2030,China will need 200 million tonnes of grain inports, the equivalent of total world grain exports now.

New Zealand's meat and dairy industries say they can contribute to meeting biofuel targets but not in significant volumes. Tallow - pure fat rendered from meat processing - If  New Zealand's total tallow production is made into biofuel at a 5% mix it would go a long way to meeting the Government's sales targets.
Whey from milk processing are often cited as major contributors to meeting compulsory biofuel sales targets which the New Zealand Government will introduce from April 2008

Another alternative, the growing of energy oil crops, is still in its infancy.

Anchor Ethanol, a wholly-owned subsidiary of  Fonterra, makes 13 to 15 million litres a year of ethanol.
They sell it profitably already, domestically and exported.
Some people have the idea that alcohol from whey could solve all the biofuel problems, it could make a contribution but only a small part of it.

Whatever happens in the coming year to help meet the Government's Biofuel Sales targets New Zealand Farmers look set to benefit as rising global biofuel production intensifies pressure on international grain prices and livestock production costs, as prices go up, and the farmers are already starting to reap the benefits.
